Infiniti FX50 2010 takes a bow at Geneva

Well, well, well...altho I think the exterior design Its just a matter of gueting used to - as I quite like It already - I can't say the same about the interior, this shot taken (horrible quality btw, was that a celphone camera or what?)show what It seems to be a very bad quality inteior with cheap plastics and wood, just notice the buttons right above the gear level, aww...lokks terrible. That's a good point, torque isn't just representative of power, it's representative of the size of the object it's turning. To have such a large torque yet such a low power output probably indicates a very large axis of rotation moving very slowly. It's a good headline figure, but the 0-100 time shows it's not on the pace of modern petrol engines. They came up with an unmistakable and at the same time beautiful shape, so rare these days, and you wanted a total remake? Come on, look at the Porsche 911... an icon must keep its identity for generations, and that's what they did. The sleeker front end and better sculpted volumes will depict a beautiful car in person, these are just 2D photographs. the front end of this car for some reason reminds me a bloated toyota raf 4. not necessarily a bad thing but honestly i was expecting a little more departure from the outgoing model's theme. Specifically, i have always found a rear end a bit too rounded for my taste and hoped for them to address that in their redesign. But from what i see the shape and the roofline are pretty much the same. Also, i have noted the front end has a bumper that seats little to high, meaning higher repair cost for minor accidents. I certainly hope to see a hybrid on this model, because even a current fx35 is a gas hog around New York City, returning an awful 12 mpg in the city cycle. Overall Given Infiniti's loyal fanbase for this particular model i don't see any problem for them to move everyone of those vehicles coming stateside. Infiniti are deadly serious about Europe and who would doubt their future success with Carlos Ghosn at the helm. Mr. Ghosn is highly revered within motoring circles having dragged ailing car giant Nissan from the brink of bankruptcy and nurturing Renault to success. Mr. Ghosn held tonight’s (04/March/08) event held at the Geneva Motor Show to showcase Infiniti’s European line up, but more importantly, the global launch of Infiniti’s most distinctive model, the FX.
The second generation FX gains a new 5.0L V8 and a 7 speed automatic transmission to create the new FX50 flagship. This set up replaces the 4.5L V8 and 5 speed auto set up of the older car. The VK50VE V8 produces a considerable 390hp and 500Nm of torque and the 7 speed automatic transmission has ASC (Adaptive Shift Control) which gives a throttle blip on downshifts.
All this performance is fed through Infiniti’s intelligent four-wheel drive system called ATTESA-E TS with Electronic Stability Program (ESP) and Traction CInfiniti FX50 2010 takes a bow at Genevaontrol (TCS). Although Infiniti’s FX has always been amongst the leaders of the pack with respect to performance, it is the styling that is truly remarkable and has always differentiated it from its adversaries.
The first generation FX was concept car stuff when first released and still today strikes a silhouette that is unique. Perhaps it is fortunate that Infiniti’s designers have maintained the general shape of the original vehicle. The styling is best described as dramatic and will certainly polarise some groups, but it is definitely unique and will gain many admirers. The exterior is finished off with some huge 21-inch alloys.
"After a 20-year journey, we believe Infiniti is ready... with a fresh, distinctive choice for Europe's most discerning customers," Mr. Ghosn said.
The all-new Infiniti FX50 will be available in North America in June 2008 and in European markets starting from October 2008. Two comprehensive press releases follow.
