2009 2010 Mazda MAZDA 6 : A Family BMW for Half the Price

The 2009 MAZDA6 is a 4-door, 5-passenger family sedan, or sports sedan, available in 7 trims, ranging the i Sports Sedan SV to the s Sports Sedan Grand Touring. For a mid-priced, mid-sized family sedan, it handled superbly. I've driven several BMW's over the years, and the Mazda felt it could compete with those. I didn't take it past 100 mph, which is where Bimmers really shine, or do any crazy maneuvers, so I can't comment on how it performs at the edge. But, at legal speeds, the handling was excellent. The one area where it fell short was in the driver's legroom. I would have preferred that the seat go back a couple of inches more (I'm a 6 footer). Also, the wheel well and the central column intruded a bit into the area for the driver's legs. That was not an issue on a test drive, but I could imagine it might get a bit uncomfortable on a long trip.

The one other area of possible concern for me was reliability. Mazda has a pretty decent reputation for reliability, but not the best. Then again, it's probably better than BMW's, for much less cost. Frankly, after the test drive, I wondered what the point of buying a BMW would be, other than for showing off.
